"Have you ever lost yourself in a kiss? I mean pure psychadelic inebriation. Not just lustful petting but transcendental metamorphosis when you became aware that the greatness of this being was breathing into you. Licking the sides and corners of your mouth, like sealing a thousand fleshy envelopes filled with the essence of your passionate being and then opened by the same mouth and delivered back to you, over and over again - the first kiss of the rest of your life. A kiss that confirms that the universe is aligned, that the world's greatest resource is love..."
"they blindfolded her
and spun her in circles
so she would
find her way here
by no other means
than her intuition"
"a thousand ants
crawling under a log
may find themselves exposed
in my childlike search
for you"
"my friends,
love is an artform
slightly removed from its element
one may ask
well what does this mean?
i respond
i've made it up
but it shall be
from now on"
"i had resorted to sleeping with my back to my partner. the ball i slept in became the question mark i now placed within all prior commitments. this was no teenage crush. it was an adulthood rite. she was what love had grown up to be: unspoken, yet shared between us."
"there are voices of elders
who seem to do no more
than damn us
to our childish ways
for in many households
wisdom no longer comes with age"
...to be continued.
My roommate, Shanta, recently lent me this book and instantly i was drawn into this man's use of words. His ideas, his play on simple occurences of life are just beyond anything i could ever imagine for myself. You know when you hear a song on the radio with that tight beat that clicks instantly with you...or see a painting where you can't even fathom how the painter took that paintbrush and made this ridiculous-crazy masterpiece...or even something like watching one of those "oh shit, did you see that?" plays watching b-ball or football...thats how i felt reading this book tonight. Sitting out on my porch, i'm shaking my head in amazement, reading and re-reading lines, just repeating the words "damn, thats hot!" over and over again. I even came back into the apt. reciting my fave lines to shanta, cuz yeah, i'm gay like that. It's crazy when something hits you that hard. Like that first passage i quoted above. I mean, after reading that and being reminded of those intimate moments when i straight up felt high-on-chronic during and afterwards, who would want to kiss or make love when it's NOT like that? words are powerful, man. words are powerful.
