It's been a while
o/` It's been a whiiiilllle o/` It's a song lyric, I know it is! Who sang it? Was it Stained? Oh well, good title for yet another one of my sporadic, every-other-month blogs. Everything's been pretty peachy in my life lately. 2003 is definitely a year of change and newness. Yeah, i know thats what i said in the beginning of 2002. But if i had to categorize and label 2002, i'd call it the year of Diane Gone Loca. Seriously, lots of vices came to extremes. Study hard, party harder definitely became my year "two-double-oh-deuce" motto. It was just one of those years where i can look back and go "damn, that was crazy". In a lot of ways, i feel like last year was the prime of my freedom and spontaneity... two factors i completely took advantage of. It was completely about wrapping up high school and the IB years, seeing the value of friends, starting anew in college life, and basically using the power of my vibrant youth, and sometimes the naive immaturity of a youthful, care-free mind to its full so-called advantage.
In contrast, i feel this year has a more chill, yet directed amd ambitious vibe. To start things off, i met a pretty awesome guy. =D *cheese* In all honesty, in the past year all i experienced were fun, but meaningless flings . It was my nature to flee from commitment and just have a good time being in my comfort zone of singledom. Oddly enough, i stumble upon this guy who's driven, genuine, interesting, and open enough to express his feelings. He's just as busy as i am, so we completely give each other space with trust and without complaints. And Lord knows i couldn't have it any other way. I'd never be able to cope with some attention-needy guy. A few days ago, i was ready to completely just let this all go, just for the sake of returning to my comfort zone. Then i realized that it was about time i gave a possible relationship a chance, since i never really allowed that before. I have to admit that all this is taking a lot of getting used to and adjusting, but so far things are coming naturally and as usual, i'm just going with the flow.
Socially, i realized i was in a sort of rut. I wasnt really into meeting new people or developing the new friendships/acquaintances i did have. Nor was i nurturing any of my current friendships, even those with some of my closest friends. My bad, guys. I know i've been horrible at keeping in touch, but bare with me...i'm trying to not be lazy and learn what a phone/e-mail/IM is. LOL. sorry =( *hangs head* So to kick-off fixing this rut, i actually joined FSA aka the Filipino Student Association. Yep, i've delved into the azn scene. It's kinda scary, considering i was sorta anti before, but i've met a lot of dope people and a lot of the stereotypes i held of the youth of my own race were shut down. It's been pretty cool and a couple of the chicks and I are even trying to start up an asian based sorority colony here. According to carl: "That's so like you. You can't just be in one, you gotta go off starting your own." haha. The crowd is definitely different from my usual diverse one, but i'm always down to chill.
Even more significant than my fresh new outlook on relationships and social-ness, i found the courage to change my major to my true career-path passion: medicine. I am now a molecular and microbiology major. A WHAT?! Honestly, it was a huge, difficult, painstaking decision to do it, but I did. Of course, i had to have the one mother in the world that detests the health field (even though she's in it). Convincing me to change it took a lot of advice and about 20 people continually telling me that life was about finding contentment in my own ambitions, not anybody else's. Sometimes i tell myself "Why the hell did you do that, diane?!" because, no doubt, the next 4 years are gonna be hellish study wise, but it's a sacrifice i'm truly willing to make. I just need the satisfaction of pursuing what i truly want to do.
In addition, work's still great (back at the store, dancing away, thank GOD), i'm starting to volunteer at the hospital, I absolutely love every one of my classes, and i'm on the LEGO softball team. Can we say back in action for the oh-three? damn right bebe =)
